Another great leader passes on – Muhammad Ali

2015 through to today we have lost some great people; those who influenced us in so many ways. It seems like there has been an exodus.

One great that just died is Muhammad Ali. He was a true inspiration and leader to all. He influenced so many lives, right until the end. I am sure he was not perfect – no human is however he, like all of us, is perfect with his imperfections.

One of the things he will be remembered for are his quotes:

“Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.”
“He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life.”
“The man who views the world at 50 the same as he did at 20 has wasted 30 years of his life.”

We are seeing an exodus of very influential people – Prince, Ali, etc. however I feel there is a shift in our world today. It is time for new leaders to step up to the plate and challenge what is happening in our world today. I do feel that is happening. Leadership is something that begins within. It is time that each of us as individuals stand up, speak our truth, lead by example and then collectively we have the strength and impact beyond anything we have seen. We can no longer rely on one individual to change the world. If we want to see change then we must become part of the change.

It sounds so simple. It is. For too long we have handed our power away to other people; many who we think are more famous or will have more impact. These people are just human beings like you and me.

I have spent years studying the Gen Y/Millennial and now Gen Z generations. The younger Gen Y and Gen Z are less influenced by ‘star power’ and more by real people. Youtube ‘stars’ have more weight and influence on the young. I think the shift is good. I have never been swayed by star power. To me the credibility of someone I trust far outweighs that of a star standing on TV telling me how great a product is when I know that the star is being paid to say that.

I am challenging each and everyone of you to see your ‘star power’. How many lives have you influenced/impacted? How many times have you turned to a trusted friend for a suggestion? A referral? How many people have turned to you to say, “thank you” I needed that hug/words of encouragement or advice?

Don’t undervalue yourself… you are special. So you may have a smaller influence than a CEO, sports star, entertainer, so what! Again, if we collectively begin to impact for the better than when you add that all up it could mean a new bill in parliament has been passed or you were able to be part of something that brought good (like signing a petition) to many.

I am ready to step into my leadership role when it comes to our children’s future success. I believe I have found the right people to work with.

This is food for thought as we slow down for the summer. Think about it. Maybe come September you will be ready to charge ahead in life. It’s one baby step at time.

I want to wish all of you a wonderful weekend.

All my love,
