Connecting the Dots … Looking Back

Steve Jobs passed away this week and he has left behind a tremendous legacy. One of his greatest legacies (my belief) is the speech he gave to the Stanford students. I want to quote one part of it. You have all heard life is a journey. So often, we get on this journey determined to follow a specific path. Sometimes that path takes us off course and for a good reason although this reason may not be evident at the time.

You can only gain this awareness and wisdom once it is done and you are looking back.

Words by Steve Jobs:

“it is impossible to connect the dots looking forward when I was in college. But it was very, very clear looking backwards 10 years later.

Again, you cannot connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.”
