K’Naan Anthem

This is one version of K’naan’s song “Wavin’ Flag” which is the official anthem of the FIFA World Cup being held in South Africa.   K’naan is a Junor Award winner who was born in Somalia and emigrated with his family to Canada when he was 13 years old.   He has taken the impact of the fighting in Somalia and turned it into a song of hope and optimism.   He likens freedom to a “waving flag” which flies free in the wind.   This You Tube version does not have the original lyrics.   The song has been sung by thousands of people in many lands and there are many versions which K’naan says makes it so interesting.   The young and the elderly are going crazy over the song.

In 43 days the FIFA World Cup begins in South Africa.   Soccer is one of the most popular sports in the world and especially in Africa.   For some time now 50% of the tickets were not sold for the FIFA Cup as a large portion of the population in South Africa and other parts of Africa do not have access to the internet.   Other systems were put in place to sell the tickets and now only a hundred thousand tickets are waiting to be sold.   The organizers believe every ticket will be sold by the time the event starts.
