Simplifying things

I wanted to share a story that was relayed to me by my best friend. She was reading an article in which a woman declared that after years and years of struggling each morning of what to wear to work and following an incident she decided enough…. she went out and bought 5-7 pairs (enough for a week) of black pants and white shirts to last her throughout the week at work. This was to become her uniform.

Brilliant if you ask me. She has significantly reduced her stress level in the mornings. Of course she is not the most fashionable person in the office and now everyone expects her to wear the same outfit. What I loved was what my friend said the woman commented, “Now people can focus on my intelligence and what I am contributing rather than focusing on what I wear.” How great is that???

I have always loved how private and certain public schools have dress codes for the students. This removes the pressure to wear certain labels or clothes and puts the emphasis on learning. I know it would be unconstitutional to enforce a dress code unless it is part of the company policy, i.e. an airline, however imagine how much stress would be reduced in the mornings. I know some people love to get up and choose their outfit in the morning, however there are many who struggle with this (like me often)… and say to themselves, “What am I going to wear today?”

Sometimes when we tweak or eliminate one thing we can actually alter or shift the routine. In the case of this woman, she decided to create a uniform she wears to work and in doing so, she has eliminated so much stress in her life.

This is food for thought. Maybe there is something in your life that you can eliminate or reduce that would in fact reduce your stress. Think about it.

I want to wish each of you a wonderful weekend.

All my love,
